How did Brexit come about? Has it worked for Britain? What are the current economic conditions and expected trends? Has there been a shift in London's international positioning? Is it up to the new Labour government to reset relations with the European Union? This essay proposes answers to these questions, tracing the history of Britain's exit from the EU and looking at the current debate on international relations and the short- and long-term economic impact of Brexit on the country, in years of pandemic, low growth and challenges to national and regional security.
