The article offers a diachronic analysis of the Chinese Communist Party's discourse on Taiwan through the Party Congresses from 1992 to 2022, understood as key moments in understanding the ideological and strategic evolution of Chinese foreign policy. Inserting itself into the tradition of the history of international relations, the study shows how the language of the CCP progressively redefined Taiwan: from potential interlocutor to instrument or obstacle to the realization of the “great renaissance of the Chinese nation.” The official narrative has prograssively excluded the island's civil society from the political picture, while the Taiwan issue appears as the main fault line in the competition with the United States. The lexicon of cooperation has been replaced by that of security and deterrence, marking a shift from a strategic expectation to an assertive and centralized posture.
