Beyond the intake: the patient who remains

In this article we wanted to examine the concept of assumption within the therapeutic relationship from the point of view of the patient, but especially from that of the analyst. Through a journey through history we wanted to highlight how the approach to the patient has changed over time, that from a doctor-patient relationship in which there was no involvement on the part of the therapist, we moved to the concept of relationship as a valid instrument of care. Through a clinical case, therefore, we wanted to observe how unpredictable events can be, for the analyst, the tool to come into contact with personal dimensions hidden by theoretical rules. A concept of relationship that takes into account both the patient and the analyst, their link even after the analysis is over and that sometimes, when subjective factors come into play, can be maintained over time.
