Retracing some "steps" of the path taken by the Italian Constitution of 1948, the first attempt was made to focus attention on the liberal-democratic model resulting from the arduous work of the Constituents. These laid the foundations for a new beginning, then followed the troubled implementation and the growing succession of reform projects, often not completed, if not even rejected by popular vote. "Everyone warns that it's not going, but we don't know how to correct it or replace it" Ugo Spirito said as far back as 1972. And meanwhile the 1948 Constitution still appears today as the pact that binds the Italian people in freedom and democracy, beyond all the reasons for division.
